The Guru & Lineage

Often times when we hear the word “Guru” in the west, we think of some enlightened teacher. Guru is more precisely translated as remover of darkness. (Gu- light Ru- dark.) This can be anyone or any experience that sheds light on what we have not been fully seeing or understanding. The Guru is the teacher energy that lives inside of everyone and everything. It is the potential for any experience, or any interaction to provide us with deeper understanding of the truth. There is no one way that the Guru looks. They do not require any specific credentials. However the story of "Guru" has often been twisted and utilized to take advantage of students and perpetuate the abuse of women. This course seeks to shed light on the spaces that are not holding this energy in integrity. The wise student of yoga looks to see the teacher in the obvious, the mundane, the painful and the ridiculous! They are not limited by a "Guru construct". During our study together we will discuss the beauty of the Guru energy and the harm that "false" Gurus inflict. We look at ways to recognize this energy and avoid manipulation. We will also discuss the story of lineage, it's purpose and how it has harmed the feminine in yoga
